The Digital Transformation. What’s next for our world in the dawn of the digital age.

Have you ever noticed the difference between your first day of school to today at University?

eExams, iPads in classrooms, touch screens in lectures… in the last decade we have seen a phenomenal rise in the use of electronics and digital technology to ‘improve’ our education process. I remember the old chalkboard in my prep classroom in 2004, which when I walked past it last month was a interactive touch screen, but my old school isn’t the only one. Australian Schools and Universities alike are moving toward purely online and digital education.

64% of Australian Schools according to Pearson Education Australia have or are working toward a fully online learning experience for our next generation. This can partially be put down to the 67.5% of teachers nation wide who believe they do not get enough help in the classroom. Surveys conducted by Pearson also indicated only 8% of Australian Schools and Universities are openly using a greater amount of printed material to online. So has the innovative and creative technology solved the education system a list of problems or we lost touch with our traditions?

Yes and No. The main benefits to a digital world are the cost-effective technology as well as the reduction in paper printed (environmentally) and the use of Artificial intelligence. Digital resources also cater better to different learning styles as indicated by Pearson, but 48% of household still hold doubts on confidence in the digital transformation – and its this confidence barrier that may be preventing our schools from a fully digital environment.

Do you prefer the Digital Transformation or rather a Traditional world?

  1. Great post! I think I’m inclined to favour the Digital Transformation age! There are so many new possibilities and opportunities arising with technology, and like you said, the environmental impact is better. Thanks for the insights!

  2. I’m definitely leaning more towards a digital transformation age, we’re exposed to so much more information! It brings up chances for opportunities that we wouldn’t of had before!
