Everyone cares about it but no-one acts to change – Privacy Concern is the dark side of the digital world, and a looming threat to our safety.

Privacy. It’s personal, it’s about the individual and everyone has a right to it – but with different settings, terms and conditions for every new digital site, how much we do really care about who has our information?

Privacy concern magnifies a subset of overall data privacy, with storing, re-purposing and use by third parties of private information about you online – particularly on social media sites. It’s observed 65% of online Australian individuals don’t read privacy policies and will often give away information for a very small reward such as reading an article for free or playing a game on social media, which asks for access to your email, name, and date of birth. Do we really care, honestly? Has anyone actually read a terms and conditions before?

Cyber security and threats are at an all time high, and according to Cybint a hacker attack happens every 39 seconds world wide – as well as the average cost of data breaching exceeding $150 million USD worldwide in 2020.Research suggests individuals care significantly… So how can we all protect ourselves and avoid major privacy concern – despite an expected $6 trillion being spent on cybersecurity?

  1. Such an interesting read! I had no idea cyber attacks were so common. A major privacy concern I had once was a hacker somehow stealing hundreds of dollars through my bank account via iTunes! It’s definitely made me more wary, but I’ll gladly use some of your tips mentioned above. Thanks!
