As a first post to my blog I thought I’d relay the previous king of the marketing world and display the accurate decline of the universal marketing tool, known as a Newspaper. We are all students likely with some casual or part time job to keep us afloat and begin to pay off that black cloud known as a HECS debt.
How did you apply for your job? How did you find out the job position was available?

Our fathers, mothers, grandparents and great grandparents before us didn’t have Seek or Gumtree to find their next big break. Newspaper advertisements were the key to employment followed by some TV advertisements, but I can safely say my job opportunities came from the internet and that is the monumental change in the digital era.
Thus we have the dawn of a new age in marketing for job opportunities and work. Digital marketing is defined by the marketing of products or services on any digital medium particularly the internet. We now get our news, our sports updates, our wedding notifications and our job openings from… you guessed it… the internet in some form or another. In fact 76.9% of Australians aged above 14 get their News and Jobs from online or through Apps. This is how time has evolved to make everything more efficient and easy for companies to advertise jobs and get the biggest pool of applicants from literally anywhere.
So what for the newspaper… Let me know in the comments if you think the newspaper has a future, or just a commodity of the past.

Great post! I think newspapers are definitely less popular with the younger generations but still a necessity for those more old fashioned.

I’ve always liked reading the newspaper to be honest but when I think about it I get 98% of my news off facebook so I agree with your point.

I think hard-copy newspapers days will eventually be over, as most of the information in them are already available online

I hope they remain a commodity as its such a historically relevant item however I sadly agree with you

like your post! I do think that newspaper in the future will not be a thing anymore, because through online you could check news, seeking jobs and basically everything you seek in newspaper, online.

I sadly think the physical newspaper doesn’t have a future! I wish it wasn’t the case for all of those poor journalists, but we simply take readily available information for granted.

Online news is now the future way of getting your daily updates and online subscription models have sadly taken over the need to buy a paper which makes me sad. Great last point

I think that newspapers might not have much future left, because with online news, any current news can be updated almost instantaneously while newspapers would only update it the next day.

like your post! your blog made me to consider for a while whether the hard-copy newspaper is necessary in this “digital” world. I think online newspaper is taking over the hard copies and we are already getting used to it. it is sad to acknowledge that hard copy newspaper is disappearing time to time

It is super sad to acknowledge but it’s coming very soon and its not a great thought

I think newspapers don’t have a future sadly. All of the information found in newspapers can be found online anyway and it is much more cost effective and environmentally friendly if we go digital!

Extremely sad Soph, most people get their information of their phone anyway but miss the old wide spread paper
