Our World is becoming a virtual reality… if new trends are as accurate as they seem.

15 years ago when I started school at age 5, the concept of climbing trees, kicking a ball and fighting with my younger brother was all I knew… yet virtual reality is changing how we see the world.

Children and Adults alike in Australia according to Mordor Intelligence are moving toward virtual reality as a form of entertainment and enjoyment – and I really never thought I would utter that statement. America’s industry is forecast to tip over 19 billion by 2020 according to Statistica, and this ‘computer-simulated life’ is becoming ever popular amongst teenagers and especially gamers.

Australia is in a ‘high’ growth period, and with the number of global users jumping from 4.1 million in 2015 to 114 million in 2018 – it seems only predictable Australian’s would jump on board. The market for VR has also become more and more competitive with the introduction to VR in China expecting to see a climb in companies and increase the affordability of the technology… which currently sits at an average of around $500 Australian dollars. So the digital marketing for the new VR products looms as a big deal moving forward but where does this our realities in 2019?

Whilst participation in sport has increased, Aussport project stagnant and slow growth with a .9% between 2016-2017 and Book Stores across Australia have an annual loss of -6.7%. 7.5 hours has become the average time spent on media for 8-18 year olds, and due to the increase in technologies reach this is likely to increase. So is it time to think about our virtual world or enjoy what is around us?

  1. Thanks for the great read! I think it could be time to at least think about our virtual reality world, as it is looming closer everyday so we may as well get used to it and research ill effects of it and errors while we still can. It would be a shame to ignore what is around us while we do this though, so hopefully a fusion of both can be achieved! And hopefully a completely virtual world will never be necessary!
